Utopia Tapestry (collaboration work making)

for site project, me and my friend Nana collaborated. In this project, each student was given a place from South London. My place was Canal Walk in Peckham. There was the Grand Surrey Canal in the past, but now there is just a cycling road. Nana's place was Brixton City Farm, but animals coming only when a festival happen. Thus, our theme is 'finding' so we got an idea of pattern, which means the action of repeating and finding. Also we have got embroidering, which has a same meaning as well. And we also want to show a kind of utopia on this tapestry. it means finding something, but already got a utopia. Therefore, we chose colourful threads to express happiness :)
we have done the research, drawing, design, screen printing, and sewing for this tapestry^0^♪

In the exhibition, Parallel Cites

this is the first idea of a pattern. we drew each drawings
 and did layout with photoshop.

after group tutorial, we changed the pattern design.
we should tell the meaning of finding from our drawing.

we planned how to embroider on the pattern

thinking about the colours

drawing a path with orange thread

making fringe like a canal flowing

canal running, a horse drawing a ship,
a traveler  walking

grass, canal and a milestone,
a trace of a bicycle
